Memphis rappers and hip hop legends 8Ball & MJG are scheduled to appear for the ‘Heart of Memphis’ Rally come March 30 which is an apparent alternative to the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) rally where the KKK will be protesting the name changes of several Confederate-themed city parks. The name changes being protested includes one named after the first Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, Nathan Bedford Forrest, as covered on MemphisRap.com.
The aim of the “Heart of Memphis” rally is reportedly to celebrate the city’s culture and apparently to counter the KKK rally, which will be taking place outside of the Shelby County Courthouse.
While the KKK rally will be taking place outside of the Shelby County Courthouse, the Heart of Memphis rally will be joining at the Tiger Lane outside the Liberty Bowl stadium near Rhodes College, Christian Brothers University and the University of Memphis.
The Heart of Memphis rally, which is organized by Elvis Presley Enterprises’ director of public relations Kevin Kern, has brought on supporters such as the Memphis Music Commission, Memphis Music Foundation, YWCA, Team Max, City of Memphis, Greater Memphis Chamber, Memphis Grizzlies, Visitors Bureau, amongst others for the free event that takes place Saturday, March 30 from 10 AM to 5 PM.
The free event will be featuring a number of events and activities including a farmers market, classic car displays, storytelling, a food truck rally and Mayor Wharton’s Easter egg roll.
