Authorities say a New Jersey woman allegedly doused her newborn baby with an accelerant and then set the baby on fire in the middle of a New Jersey road.
Arriving at the scene on Friday night, police officers found the baby of Hyphernkemberly Dorvilier, 22, in the middle of the road in flames.
Police immediately went to put out the fire and the baby was flown to a local hospital in Philadelphia where the baby was later pronounced dead after about two hours.
Though the child is believed to have died from the fire, an autopsy is set to determine the child’s actual cause of death.
Apparently, the incident was seen by eyewitnesses including Dave Joseph, 45, who saw a young woman get out of her car and set something on fire in the middle of the New Jersey road Simontown and was told by Dorvilier that she was burning dog waste.
As the woman attempted to flee following the incident, local residents prevented her from leaving after hearing the baby cry.
It is believed that Dorvilier had just given birth to the baby which still had the afterbirth (placenta) attached and umbilical cord.
Dorvilier, of Pemberton Township, is currently being held in jail on $500,000 bond.
