Memphis Police Dir. Larry Godwin: ‘Lorenzen Wright Murder Case Left Cold?’

Although The Memphis Police Department has a high success rate when it comes to solving murders, it is having a difficult time piecing together clues in Lorenzen Wright’s murder.

Memphis Police Director Larry Godwin, who is set to retire soon, says he really hates that he is retiring without solving Lorenzen Wright’s murder and that it’s unfortunate that the new Police Director, whoever that may be, is left with a cold case that keeps growing colder as time passes, reports Marcus Hunter of FOX 13 News.

Though promising leads in the case seem to always run cold, Wrights mother, Deborah Marion, thanks Godwin for his efforts in trying to solve her son’s murder and says that having a new team on the case may help.

It’s been seven months since former Grizzlies player Lorenzen Wright’s body was found in a field in Southeast Memphis, very close to the Mississippi state-line. Two weeks before his body was discovered, Germantown police received a 911 call from Wright’s cell phone on the night he was murdered.

Godwin has admitted that if the call would have came through Memphis 911 the case would have taken a different turn toward finding Wright’s killer or killers.
