Duke Takes the Crown from Butler: 2010 NCAA Men’s Championship

The day finally came. The most anticipated match-up of the season Butler taking on the Duke. In a losing effort of 61-59 Butler made everyone believe again. The team that was ultimately known as the “Cinderella Story” were beating teams left and right for this moment.

Riding on a 27 game win streak, Butler refused to go away without a hard fight.

Duke, known as the team that everyone loves to hate, made the world dislike them yet once again. The world wanted a change, wanted the Butler Bulldogs to steal one but Duke had other plans. The big 3 of Jon Scheyer, Nolan Smith, and Kyle Singler got started early especially beyond the arc. Butler made it a great game in coming back in the 2nd half and even taking the lead for a few mins, but Duke’s defense was too much.

A game that was all it was cracked up to be, ended the same way. With 6.1 secs left, Butler had the chance to win it with a 3 pointer. Butler star guard Gordon Hayward came down the court while splitting two defenders and threw up a half-court shot that almost went in. The arena and the whole world were clinching their heels on that one.

Congratulations to both teams they both played their best games, there were no losers on improvers.
