Surry County Commonwealth (Virginia) Prosecutor Gerald G. Poindexter proceeded with his case against former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick on Tuesday.
After deliberation, the Surry County grand jury charged Vick with one count of promoting or engaging in dogfighting, and a second count of beating, killing, or causing dogs to fight. Each of the felonies carry a 5-year maximum prison term.
Vick’s attorney, Billy Martin, released the following statement:
“We are disappointed that these charges were filed in Surry County, since it is the same conduct covered by the federal indictment for which Mr. Vick has already accepted full responsibility and pled guilty to in US District Court in Richmond, Virginia
