Swine Flu Strikes Memphis Metro Suburb Collierville, TN

Pig Wearing A Mask

A reported case of the now national/worldwide Swine Flu, aka Swine influenza, the type of influenza believed to be caused by a strain of the influenza virus endemic in pigs (swine), has caused an alert to hit Shelby County after an alleged case was reported in Collierville, a town in Shelby County, Tennessee, and a suburb located in the Memphis metropolitan area.

The government issued an alert for a swine flu virus outbreak in America and Mexico earlier this week, which by that time, a reported death toll of 150 people had been already reported in Mexico.

At this time, public health emergency has health care providers everywhere watching more closely anyone with signs of the flu or flu-like symptoms to avoid the outbreak from growing any faster than it already has.

The deadly Influenza has also recently caused a pandemic alert by the World Health Organization (WHO) to be raised from phase 4 to 5.

Here’s a description of Swine Flu Pandemic Alert Level 5 according to the WHO official website:

Phase 5 is characterized by human-to-human spread of the virus into at least two countries in one WHO region. While most countries will not be affected at this stage, the declaration of Phase 5 is a strong signal that a pandemic is imminent and that the time to finalize the organization, communication, and implementation of the planned mitigation measures is short.

Signs of Swine Flu include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills, fatigue and possible diarrhea and vomiting.

Safety precautions you should take to ward off Swine Flu include:

Wash your hands with soap and warm water.
Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing and be cautious of others who are coughing.
Limit your time around groups of people in public if possible.
Spray your home and car with a disinfectant spray such as Lysol. Be sure to spray your door and toilet handles, etc…
Get yourself a travel size bottle of hand sanitizer.

The Swine Flu isn’t any thing new, in 1976 a public service announcement was aired warning about a possible outbreak of the virus which hoped to influence the public to get a flu shot.
