Hotel Heiress, now aspiring actress and singer, Paris Hilton pleaded not guilty to an arraignment hearing Tuesday for two counts of DUI.
After being stopped by LAPD on Sept. 6 in a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, police stated that she was driving erratically as she left a Hollywood nightclub and hot spot. Police stated that she displayed symptoms of intoxication and failed a field sobriety test. Police refused to confirm, and claimed Hilton blew a 0.08 on the Breathalyzer test, the minimum blood-alcohol level required for a DUI in California.
Paris was arrested and taken to the LAPD Hollywood division, where she was booked.
After being arrested Paris stated on Ryan Seacrest’s morning radio show the next morning that she probably was driving a little fast because she was trying to get something eat.
“Maybe I was speeding a little bit,” Hilton told Seacrest. “I was just really hungry and wanted to have an In-N-Out burger. Everything I do is blown out of proportion.”
According to her publicist, Elliot Mintz, he stated his client was simply exhausted after spending a long day shooting a music video for her song, “Nothing in This World.” And the failed Breathalyzer test, “probably the result of an empty stomach and working all day and being fatigued,” combined with the single margarita Hilton acknowledged having downed at the charity event.”
If Paris Hilton is found guilty of drunk driving, she could face a maximum penalty of a $1,000 fine and six months in county jail. Since she would be a first-time offender, Hilton would probably face a lesser punishment, involving probation, fines and an alcohol-education program.
