Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, known for the smash single Thrift Shop, were apparently almost barred from receiving hip hop nominations at the 2014 Grammy Awards by the Grammy’s rap committee.
According to an anonymous source, the rap committee does not consider the Thrift Shop lyricists to be hip-hop and wanted to place them in the pop category.
Apparently, the ruling was overruled and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have been nominated for “Best Rap Album” and other Grammy nominations.
The 2014 Grammy Awards are set to take place Sunday, January 27, 2014 with the 56th Annual Grammy Awards Ceremony taken place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The awards show is set to broadcast live on CBS at 7PM CST/8PM EST.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are up for seven nominations as well as Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams all have 7 nominations.
Meanwhile, hip hop artist Jay-Z received a total of 9 nominations.
