It’s going down Sunday, February 12, 2005 at Lemoyne Owen College. Lemoyne Owen College will be having it’s 1st Homecoming Celebrity Basketball Game and the challege will be whether Hot 107.1 who is the first all hip-hop station to hit Memphis can keep their claim that they are definitely the Hottest! Hot 107.1 will be up against the new Power 99 FM. The B-Ball Game will give each the chance to prove that they not only have the voice on radio, but also have game. For those who rarely listen to the radio, a few days ago it was jokingly mentioned on radio that Hot 107 better be ready, especially DJ Boogaloo. Since I don’t like all that talk and I just wanna see some action, all I have to say is just don’t fall up with a foot in your mouth. All talk and no game make Dis Boi ready for a hot switch.
The game is free, but donations will be accepted since this is a fundraising event to help keep Lemoyne-Owen College in full operation. My suggestion would be to get that change and bring it with you, cause anythang can help. Bring the entire family!
Also, Lemoyne-Owen Alumni will be playing a game of B-Ball against Lane College Alumni.

History
The saga of the conditions that led to the establishment of LeMoyne-Owen College extends as far back as 1862, when prior to President Lincoln’s signing of the Emancipation Proclamation in January of 1863, Lucinda Humphreya hospital nurse at Camp Shiloh was one of the first to see the need to educate African Americans who had escaped to the Union camps. So she held candlelit instructions for groups of Blacks to teach them the alphabet.
In 1863, the school was moved to Memphis, but was destroyed by fire in the race riots, which followed the withdrawal of federal troops in 1866. Lemoyne-Owen College grew to what was to be known in 1866 as Lincoln Chapel. Later, Dr. Francis Julian LeMoyne, a life member of the American Missionary Association and a prominent physician of Washington, Pennsylvania, made a generous financial gift to the school, it was renamed in his honor as the LeMoyne Normal and Commercial School, acquired its present site in 1914 on Walker Ave, and finally chartered by the State of Tennesse as a four-year degree granting institution in 1934.
Owen College was conceived by the Tennessee Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention, opening in 1954 and named in honor of the Reverend S. A. Owen, a prominent religious and civic leader.
In the fall of 1968 both institutions merged, forming LeMoyne-Owen College.
