Funk legend Sly Stone, real name Sylvester Stewart, has ‘played a good note’ as the legendary artist, record producer and front-man for the iconic funk band Sly and The Family Stone has been awarded $5 million in back royalties that he was reportedly cheated out of by his business partners – his former manager and entertainment lawyer.
The Rock N Roll Hall of Famer argued that Gerald “Jerry” Goldstein and Glynn Stone reportedly deceived him into becoming a co-owner and employee of Even St. Productions and then they pocketed royalties through ‘shady accounting’ from Stone over a decade of time.
A Los Angeles Supreme Court jury sided with Stone’s argument and awarded him $5 million in a decade worth of back royalties.
The legal battle between Sly Stone and his business partners has been on-going since 2010 when the funk artist sued Goldstein for $50 million. Not long after the suit, it was discovered that Stone was going through homelessness living out of a white van in Los Angeles after being left financially struggling from the mismanagement of his royalties.
