Memphis City Schools’ White Station High Drops Hip-Hop Cypher

Published

on

White Station High School has ended Black History Month by dropping a hip-hop/rap cypher consisting of five rappers, all students of White Station High, rapping one after another, hence the word 'cypher.'

The White Station High hip-hop cypher video, which is directed by Ashlee DeGraph, according to the video credits, was filmed on location at White Station High School, home to The White Station Spartans in Memphis, Tennessee.

The "Black History Month" cypher, which starts out with rapper Big Mac Jack, followed by rappers Mike n Ike, Jayso, Frensco Carter, and C.A., apparently was a project months in the work, evident in the video description which states "after months of hard work we did it."

White Station High's rap cypher isn't the first hip-hop cypher by a Memphis City School as Whitehaven High School, home to The Whitehaven Tigers, released a hip-hop/rap cypher as well back in 2010 entitled "Whitehaven High Presents : The 2010 WHS Awards Cypher."

Whitehaven High's rap cypher featured rappers Young Tero, Barry Irby aka Kal-El, Jeremy Sneed aka J-Sneed, P. Geek, and Mr. Parson.

Both of the school's rap cyphers have received only favorable ratings from viewers of the video.
