Women’s NCAA Tournament: Baylor Women vs. Tennessee Vols, San Diego St. vs. Duke

The Matchups at the FedEx Forum yesterday were The Baylor Women vs. The Tennessee Volunteers followed by San Diego St. vs. Duke. Baylor came back from a 10pt deficit and defeated The Vols 74-65.

This game was the Brittney Griner show.

Griner, only one of the few ladies in the tournament that can dunk, has the most explosive dunks ever and she’s only a freshman. Standing at 6’8, clearly Griner gave The Vols coach Pat Summit some worries.

Reminding her team that her dunks only count for 2pts, Summit did not want the dunks to be a distraction. “Obviously going into it everybody’s talking about Brittney Griner and the dunk,” Summitt said. “So I told them, ‘Angie [Bjorklund] and [Shekinna] Stricklen: if she dunks, just go hit a 3. Now we’re one up.”

The second game was a matchup of The Lady Duke Blue Devils vs. San Diego St. Duke cruised pass San Diego with a 66-58 win. Your talking about a close and physical game for the ladies early. Somehow Duke pulled away within the last few minutes in the 2nd half. Is it me or do the ladies play better defense than some of the male teams?

The Baylor Women will take on The Blue Devil’s Monday the 28th at 7pm at the FedEx Forum.
