The Sweet 16 Matchups of the Night

The first night of the Sweet 16 matchups was a shocker like the rest of the tournament. With upsets brewing all around the tournament, what would make this night any different right? #1 Syracuse Orange went down in a heart breaker to #5 Butler Bulldogs 63-59. This was the upset of the night. A lot more brackets took a huge hit with that game tonight.

West Virginia took a great win in a game against Washington. WVU were down as many as 15pts in the 1st half of the game only to come back and win 69-56. Cornell fell to Kentucky 62-45. The Big Red were also down as many as 20pts going into half time. They cut the lead to 2pts at one time, unfortunately they could not build on it. The matchup of the night was clearly Xavier vs Kansas State. You’re talking about a high scoring, double Overtime banger.

Two times, Xavier was down by 3pts and came down to net a 3 pointer to force 2 overtimes. Xavier can thank guard Jordan Crawford for his shoot first, think later attitude. This young man can and will pull up from anywhere on the court. Jordan was shooting from as far back as 35ft on the court. Whoa, there are not many people that can make those shots consistently, but he can and did.

In the end, it came down to who had the most steam and Kansas State brought the energy to put them over the hump to a 101-96 victory.

All the winners from tonight punched their tickets to the Elite 8 matchups starting Saturday.

There are also teams such as Tennessee, Duke, Ohio St, and Northern Iowa playing Friday for Elite 8 tickets.

But, we all await the matchup of WVU and Kentucky on Saturday. Someone has to go down, the question is WHO?
