After having a winning streak with no losses, it seems that the Memphis Tigers met it’s match when it played against the Tennessee Vols.
The night approached and the The Volunteers barely won with a four point lead of 66-62 against the Memphis Tigers with Tigers guard Chris Lofton scoring only 7 points. The Volunteers Tyler Smith scored 16 points which helped bring the Vols to the lead, while Wayne Chism and J.P. Prince each added 13.
“You guys all said we needed to lose one, so we lost one,” Memphis coach John Calipari said to the press, trying to shrug off the end of the nation’s longest home winning streak at 47 games. “Great game. I have to give them credit. They scrapped, they battled.”
Volunteers coach Bruce Pearl felt it was a great night for college basketball and was a lively night like the Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson fight in Memphis.
While anger may have settled in momentarily after the loss and Tiger basketball players saying ‘no’ to interviews, the Memphis Tigers actually feel that losing to a team in their home state such as the Vols is better than anything else, but they still are still No. 1.
