The United Football League is scouting Memphis as home to one of its teams.

The United Football League is scouting Memphis as home to one of its teams. The UFL is currently being developed with the help of Wall Street investor William Hambrecht and Google executive Tim Armstrong.

The league announced Friday that it would allow the fans in the 12 handpicked cities to reserve tickets at ticketreserve.com. The top 8 cities that have the most fan participation in buying tickets will acquire a franchise. Fans that buy tickets in the cities that are not chosen will receive a full refund.

The 12 cities on the list include Austin, Texas; Birmingham, Alabama; Columbus, Ohio; Las Vegas, Nevada; Los Angeles, California; Louisville, Kentucky; Memphis, Tennessee; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Orlando, Florida; Sacramento, California; San Antonio, Texas; and Raleigh or Durham, North Carolina.

The UFL plans to develop its player roster with quality athletes, such as individuals that are undrafted free agents and players that are released from the NFL. Games are scheduled to begin in late summer of 2008.
