An Idaho man, who slapped a 19-month-old boy, for crying and used a racial slur while on a Delta flight to Atlanta, GA has been fired from his job after first being suspended.
Joe Rickey Hundley, 60, president of an aircraft parts manufacturer based in Idaho, has been accused of slapping a 1 year boy aboard a Delta flight from Minneapolis to Atlanta.
On February 8, the toddler’s mother Jessica Bennett, 33, of Minnesota was seated in a neighboring seat by Joe Rickey Hundley. Jessica Bennett was on the flight to go to a funeral while, Joe Rickey Hundley was going to visit someone in the hospital in Atlanta.
Bennett says she actually had moved to the rear of the plane during part of the flight to move her son away from Hundley who had smelled of alcohol and had slurring speech.
Bennett states that as the flight began its descent into Atlanta, her son began to cry due to the change of altitude and Hundley, who was seated next to them, told her to ‘shut that n–ger baby up.’
Hudley, who may have became frustrated with the crying baby, turned around and slapped the little boy in the face leaving a scratch below his right eye.
According to an affidavit, passengers aboard the flight helped Bennett and one passenger, Todd Wooten, claims he heard the slur from 12 rows ahead and witnessed the alleged assault.
Joe Rickey Hundley, who has a previous record for a misdemeanor assault charge in 2007, was charged with simple assault and faces up to 1 one year in prison.
Meanwhile, authorities are waiting for Hundley to surrender so that a court date can be set in Atlanta.
