The 1975 blaxploitation feature film Dolemite which centers around a pimp named “Dolemite,” played and created by comedian-writer-producer Rudy Ray Moore, is set to return to big screen in a new movie remake.
Moore, 81, who has referred to himself as “The Godfather of Rap,” will reportedly help to produce the new version of Dolemite and may even be featured in the new movie.
The original Dolemite was directed by D’Urville Martin, who appears in the 1975 movie as the villain Willie Green. The new movie remake will be directed by Bill Fishman (Fallout Entertainment), who bought the remake rights to the movie. “I think there is a certain sincerity in the original that is kind of undeniable,” Fishman said in a statement. “(Moore’s) a cult figure and a luminary … He’s an original.
Fishman’s Fallout Entertainment, although in the initial stages of casting, has reportedly already had discussions with several stars of comedy and hip-hop, including Snoop Dogg.
The film production for Dolemite is expected to begin in fall in Los Angeles, though Fishman states there are discussions of possibly shooting in New Orleans.
