Cash Money rapper Lil Wayne is set to co-star in his first movie appearance alongside Forest Whitaker in movie ”Patriots”.
Patriots is based on the true story of the 2005 John Ehret High School boy’s basketball team in Marrero, Louisiana.
The film which is directed by Tim Story (previous credits: Barbershop, Fantastic Four, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer), is about the basketball team of players who attended five different high schools before Hurricane Katrina. The team is coached by Forrest Whitaker, who plays Al Collins, the basketball coach for John Ehret High, who led his Patriots to the state championship a year after Katrina ravaged the school and displaced many of its students. Whitaker also stars in the movie Street Kings which is currently on-screen alongside Common and The Game.
Lil’ Wayne plays the character Lamont, a student at Al Collins High School who is a skeptic of the newly-assembled team.
The movie Patriots began filming in New Orleans this week and also casts Isaiah Washington, Taraji P. Henson, rapper Bow Wow, and others.
In related news, Lil Wayne’s highly anticipated album Tha Carter III is expected to hit stores on June 10th.
