Former heavy weight champion of the world “Iron” Mike Tyson pled guilty recently to cocaine possession and a misdemeanor DUI count.
At the hearing, defense attorney David Chesnoff explained that Tyson has been sober for 8 months in an effort to sway the judge’s verdict. “It’s obvious this was a crime he was committing against himself,” Chesnoff said. However, prosecutors were not without ammunition against Tyson who has been involved in highly publicized legal battles. “Mike Tyson is a repeat offender with a violent past,” argued County Lawyer Andrew Thomas. “I believe only a prison sentence will send the right message and properly protect the public.”
Tyson is set to be sentenced on November 19 and could face up to 4 years and 3 months behind bars.
