During the Legends of The Summer tour stop in New York, Memphis’ own R&B/Pop star Justin Timberlake and New York rapper Jay-Z took time out to honor the late Trayvon Martin who was shot and killed by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman in Florida on last year.
The two music stars who are co-headlining a tour together dedicated Jay-Z’s song “Forever Young,” originally by the Alphaville’s, at the end of their show at the Yankee Stadium.
The following day, Saturday, Jay-Z along with his wife Beyonce Knowles-Carter, attended a rally for the teen in New York, as reported on MemphisRap.com, which was after the acquittal of George Zimmerman.
George Zimmerman was found not guilty by a juror of five women (four white and one believed to Hispanic) for shooting the unarmed teen as he walked home from the store to a gated community in Sanford, Florida. The case has gained great criticism, nationally and internationally.
Since the acquittal of Zimmerman, music stars, citizens and others have been expressing their dismay over the justice system for allowing an unarmed teen to be killed and Zimmerman not punished after ignoring the commands of the dispatcher, among other things including alleged racial profiling.
