Pimp C’s death has been determined by coroners to have been caused by an overdose of Promethazine/Codeine syrup and sleep apnea.
Los Angeles County Asst. Chief Coroner Ed Winter has stated that Texas based rapper Chad Butler known as Pimp C, died from a pre-existing health condition sleep apnea and an over-the-counter drug Promethazine/Codeine syrup which helped contribute to his death.
Promethazine/Codeine which is a cough syrup, got its spotlight after Three 6 Mafia, Project Pat and U.G.K. released the song “Sippin On Some Syrup”.
According to other reports, Pimp C isn’t the first rapper to have possibly died from an overdose of Promethazine/Codeine.
Pimp C who was 33 years-old was found not breathing in his hotel room at the Mondrian Hotel in Los Angeles one night after his performance on Dec. 1 with rap legend Too Short at the “House of Blues”.
Prior to Pimp C’s death, the duo U.G.K. (Bun B. and Pimp C) had just made a comeback with their album “Underground Kingz,” which included the hit “Int’l Player’s Anthem (I Choose You),” featuring OutKast produced by Three 6 Mafia which was later nominated for a Grammy shortly after Pimp C’s death.
