Memphis Label Exec, R.J. Groove, Prepares Album Debut & New Reality TV Show

With a newly inked deal as President of A&R at Glamourocke Records/Universal Music Group, Memphis Label Executive R.J. Groove, who has helped develop other artists in the past prepares to drop his own album debut along with a new reality TV show.

Memphis native “R.J. Groove,” is back in the studio, but this time not for an artist he’s developing, but rather recording his first debut album. “This is my first album. I’ve always wanted to do one but I’ve always been so busy developing and producing everyone else’s stuff,” R.J. Groove told MemphisRap.com by phone Tuesday.

“I started almost fifteen years ago, at the age of 15, but I really started playing piano with my grandma at the age of 5.”

CEO and founder of 20 Strong Records, and now President of A&R at Glamourocke Records/Universal Music Group, R.J. Groove has had what many would call a successful career being a businessman in a business where many don’t last too long. R.J. Groove has worked with such artists as Lil Chrome (Hypnotize Minds), Lil Mokey, Mac E (MJG Muzik), Young Snipe, Calico Jonez, and others.

When asked where his career began, R.J. responded, “Everything I’ve learned in Gospel and choir, I’ve used it since moving over to R&B and Rap about a little over 5 years ago. I went by the name of Squeeky Mic, but that sounds gay as hell now.”

“I was really inspired by Jack Ashford, one of the Funk Brothers, to start my own label. He helped me get my first entertainment lawyer,” R.J. added.

With his newly inked deal with Glamourocke Records/Universal Music Group, R.J. Groove is now ready to drop his own full length LP “The Last Man To Stand” due sometime next year. R.J. Groove states he is half done with the album however, there is no official release date as of yet.

According to R.J. he is working on several other projects including working with newly signed artist Dirty White, formerly of Prophet Posse, as well as a new reality show entitled “Artist Management” which starts filming in Las Vegas in February of ’08.

Stay tuned as MemphisRap.com may be bringing you more news on this emerging businessman.
