LaDonna Adrian Gaines, better known as the ‘Queen of Disco’ singer Donna Summer, was pronounced dead this morning (May 17, 2012) after battling with lung cancer.
Donna Summer was 63 years old at the time of her death.
As one of the most influential singers of the disco era, Donna Summer’s 1978 hit song ‘Last Dance’ peaked the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play charts at #1 and the Billboard Hot 100 at #3.
Sources say the five-time Grammy Award winning Donna Summer was trying to keep her illness from the public, but was seemingly not doing “too bad” and according to a source of celebrity news site TMZ, Donna Summer was working on finishing an uncompleted album.
Summer leaves behind two daughters Brooklyn and Amanda by husband Bruce Sudano, as well as another daughter, Mimi, from a previous marriage.
