About

About me

If anyone believes that the Hip Hop scene in Memphis, Tennessee is only made up of guns, drugs, and not enough focus on diverse lyrical content, you may think differently with the arrival of J Remy. Born Jerremy Plain from the Raleigh area of North Memphis, J Remy has set a goal to become the most lyrically diverse artist out of the Mid South. His punch lines, delivery, and song themes introduce a sound not often heard from his predecessors. After graduating from Craigmont High School in 2008, he attended a year at The University of Memphis before choosing to drop out of college and join the United States Air Force. In conjunction with his commitment to making music, He also completed a 6 month deployment to Kuwait, which also produced his sophomore mix tape No MoreHeroes.
J Remy first official mix tape, The Remedy, was recorded and mixed all out of his dorm room while stationed at McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey. It was released on datpiff.com and features fellow military members A Dot Will and West Egg affiliate Spray Lodge. After recording A Dot Will’s LIES mixtape and Spray Lodge’s Beginning of Unfinished Business mixtape, Remy deployed 6 months to Kuwait and began writing for what would become his sophomore mixtape, No More Heroes. Unlike The Remedy, No More Heroes provided original beats from numerous producers, better studio quality, and a more diversified musical sound. “I definitely feel like No More Heroes was way more put together than The Remedy because I took my time and put everything in place the way I wanted it and as soon as I got back from the desert, it was put in place perfectly,” He says in his Villain Vlog.
With No More Heroes set to be available by the end of November, Remy hopes that opportunities to spread his musical talent to a broader audience will present itself. He is an artist with abilities that the hip hop scene in Memphis has definitely slept on and should be recognized to give the city a new feel to music that it’s been missing. His love for hip hop is expressed as he says “It’s not even about getting a record deal to be honest. It’s really all about being heard. All I want is for my music to be heard.”
