Jeff Ireland Apologizes To Dez Bryant For Question Of Mother As Prostitute

Miami Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland questioned former Oklahoma State WR/newly turned Dallas Cowboy rookie Dez Bryant about his mother being a prostitute. It seems that Dez and his mother were the talk of the draft pickings because Angela (Dez’s mom) had him when she was 15 and she allegedly sold crack cocaine while in and out of jail. Jeff, knowing of these charges, asked Dez in a pre-draft visit this question, as well as “Does she still do drugs?”

“No, my mom is not a prostitute,” Bryant said. “I got mad — really mad — but I didn’t show it. I got a lot of questions like that: Does she still do drugs? I sat and answered all of them.”

This was disrespectful as a person and especially as a GM of the league to ask questions like these. That had to be extremely embarrassing and showed his family in a negative light. Where do we draw the line and say “Hey, that is enough, you are getting fined”, because he deserves to pay.

After being hassled when the league found out about his questioning, Ireland apologized to Dez.

“My job is to find out as much information as possible about a player that I’m considering drafting. Sometimes that leads to asking in-depth questions,” Ireland said. “Having said that, I talked to Dez Bryant and told him I used poor judgment in one of the questions I asked him. I certainly meant no disrespect and apologized to him.”

How could he not have meant any disrespect?

NFL Players Association director became furious when he heard of this verbal abuse.

“We need to make sure the men of this league are treated as businessmen,” Smith said. “During interviews, our players and prospective players should never be subjected to discrimination or degradation stemming from the biases or misconceptions held by team personnel. Something has to be done about this situation, an example needs to be made.
