Houston gospel singer, actress and radio host Yolanda Adams, 46, is currently being investigated by the Internal Revenue Service according to documents that were filed on Tuesday.
The IRS prompted the investigation after a two million-dollar mortgage loan application came about.
According to filings, a 2005 application showed that Yolanda Adams earned more than $40,000 per month and listed that she had over $8 million dollars in assets which included a trust account holding more than $800,000, $4.9 million in other personal holdings and jewelry that was worth more than $1.5 million dollars. The application also stated she owned a Hummer and also a Lexus.
A Chase home loan application stated that the singer listed $3 million dollars in assets, a Range Rover and a Mercedes-Benz, and a business worth at least $1.5 million dollars. In addition, Yolanda Adams is stated to own a home that is worth more than $2 million dollars located in the Houston Royal Oaks Country Club subdivision.
The IRS is wanting even more details and requesting information on any royalties and endorsements which the singer may have gotten, including any music company and foundations she may be affiliated with.
Yolanda Adams’ attorney, Houston entertainment lawyer Ricky Anderson, state that he was unaware of the lawsuit and has declined to speak on the matter until he has looked into it including the IRS filings and spoken with his client Yolanda Adams who is currently on a gospel cruise in the Bahamas as a feature.
In other news, Yolanda Adams signed with Columbia Records in ’07 and released her latest project “What a Wonderful Time” in October of ’07, as a holiday collection. Yolanda Adams next project is expected to release sometime in 2008 and will feature duets with Mary J. Blige, Trin-I-Tee 5:7, and other female music artists.
In August 2004, Yolanda Adams divorced her husband NFL player Tim Crawford who she married in 1997. The couple had one daughter in 2001, Taylor Ayanna.
Yolanda Adams has under her belt four Grammy Awards, four of the Gospel Music Association’s Dove Awards, one American Music Award, seven NAACP Image Awards, one Soul Train Music Award, and three BET Awards.
