It seems that the latest and newest Twitter trend is that of the West Memphis Three (WM3) but not what you would think, it is that of the West Memphis 3 as a rap group or at least many think, MemphisRap.com has learned, according to many Twitterers on the micro-blogging social networking site. According to many tweets, some people people thought West Memphis 3 was a rap group, yes a hip hop music group, while a number of others simply think it would be cool.
“I thought West Memphis Three was a rap group,” states a number of followers, while “The West Memphis 3 should start a rap group and go on tour with Three 6 Mafia” others are tweeting.
Meanwhile, the actual West Memphis Three – Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley, Jr., and Jason Baldwin, the three men who spent half of their life span, eighteen years in prison as teens for the 1993 murders of three (3) eight-year old boys (Cub Scouts) in West Memphis, Arkansas that made national headlines – were actually released on Friday after pleading guilty to the crime. Damien Echols was on death row, while Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley faced life in prison without parole with the exception of Misskelley’s two 20-year sentences added to his sentence.
The three where immediately released for time served which raised questions about the inmates leaving the system in such a manner even though new DNA evidence cast doubt on the 3’s alleged role in the grisly 1993 murders of the young boys.
Following their release, two of the West Memphis Three men, Damien Echols and Jason Baldwin, along with their attorneys, families and supporters, headed to Downtown Memphis, TN on Friday afternoon and ate at The Madison hotel just hours after walking out of the Jonesboro, AR courtroom as free men.
Also at the hotel were Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam and Dixie Chicks’ Natalie Maines.
As to whether or not the West Memphis Three would consider becoming entertainers in the Industry is another debate in itself, but reportedly the men are however expected to possibly strike movie and book deals.
While filmmakers are currently updating the new West Memphis 3 Documentary, the three men themselves, after 18 years in jail are reportedly humbled and amazed by the latest technology and may have plans to reportedly travel with supporters.
The West Memphis 3 Documentary is reportedly set to hit festival screens in October with a HBO premiere set later in January.
