Video: Memphis Cop Beats Transsexual After Not Responding To He/She


Caught on video a transsexual was beaten with handcuffs by a Memphis Police officer for allegedly not responding to ‘he/she’ and ‘f----t’.

In a recent leaked and shocking video, a Memphis Police Officer was caught on tape beating transsexual Duanna Johnson of Memphis, TN in the booking room of the police department at 201 Poplar. Johnson alleged that the police officer attacked her because she would not respond to being called “he/she” and “f----t” by one of the officers after being arrested on prostitution charges.

There is little detail and little that could be done immediately according to Johnson and her attorney who says that they were denied the opportunity to file a complaint due to Internal Affairs investigation of the incident which is now being investigated by the F.B.I. (Federal Bureau of Investigation).

In the video you can see Johnson being attacked by the officer while another officer is holding her while onlookers just stand there looking as she is helplessly beaten over the head with handcuffs that the officer had wrapped around his knuckles according to Johnson.

“Actually he was trying to get me to come over to where he was, and I responded by telling him that that wasn’t my name — my mother didn’t name me a f----t or a he/she, so he got upset and approached me. That’s when it started. He said, ‘I’m telling you. I’m giving you one more chance to get up.’ So, I’m looking at him, and he started putting his gloves on, and I saw him take out a pair of handcuffs” said Johnson.

After the beating, reportedly, a jail nurse came to the station and walked past Johnson, never offering to aid her.

Mentioned in the investigation were Officer James Swain, 25, and Officer Bridges McRae, 28.

Since then Swain, who was serving a probationary period as a new officer, lost his job, while McRae is currently working doing desk duties until a hearing is held.

“These are the people we depend on to protect us, and I think the majority of officers in Memphis are good officers. When you see what you see on that video, it’s a scary sight to see that that could happen to any one of us,” said Johnson’s attorney Arthur Horne.

Meanwhile, Johnson states that she is filing a $1.3 million lawsuit against the City of Memphis.
