According to Billboard, Universal Music Group states that producer/rapper and label executive Jermaine Dupri Mauldin will be announced as president of urban music for Island Records on February 7, 2007.
In October of 2006, Jermaine Dupri stepped down from being president of urban music at the record label Virgin reportedly after the failing of Janet Jackson’s latest album 20 Y.O. which he co-executive produced.
Jermain Dupri owns the record label So So Def and has produced for artists such as Usher, Mariah Carey, Ludacris, TLC, Bow Wow and others. The rapper/producer is notable as the youngest ever inductee to the Georgia Music Hall of Fame on September 16, 2006, introduced by Quincy Jones and Russell Simmons.
