The decision for a grand jury to charge George Zimmerman for shooting 17 year-old Trayvon Martin, who unfortunately died of the shooting, will not take place. The decision to charge George Zimmerman will all be in the hands of an appointed special prosecutor, Angela Corey a state attorney who is known as aggressive and not to use a grand jury in certain cases.
The decision to not use a grand jury was announced on Monday by Angela Corey’s office on Monday, who was appointed on March 22 by Gov. Rick Scott.
Accordingly to reports, a grand jury is not needed to possibly charge neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman, who shot the teen on February 26, as reported on MemphisRap.com, due to the case ‘not being first degree murder or involving a possible death penalty.’
Meanwhile, Angela Corey plans to thoroughly investigate the case and weigh every piece of evidence.
Attorney Benjamin Crump, who is representing Trayvon Martin’s family says the family is hoping that charges will be brought against Zimmerman and they want a public trial so that the evidence will be revealed and show that the justice system can work.
The shooting of Trayvon Martin became viral online and was put in the media spotlight after Zimmerman wasn’t arrested for shooting the teen. Police didn’t arrest George Zimmerman, the son of a retired judg,e after he claimed self-defense “Stand Your Ground.” which he will face legal challenge if he claims immunity under the law.
