The Tennessee Titans held their first open practice on Friday and they had their first fight on Saturday at the Titans training camp, formerly known as Baptist Sports Park, now called Saint Thomas Sports Park in Nashville.
The team arrived at the second practice of 12 scheduled practices and it wasn’t long before sparks flew.
Apparently, Tennessee Titans receiver Michael Preston wasn’t too happy about a tackle delivered by Michael Griffin to receiver Nate Washington.
Washington was supposedly slung to the ground by Griffin and Preston took offense.
The two had words and the rest was history. Apparently, a melee or brawl involving around 20 players began on the training camp field.
Griffin says he was actually trying to just hold Washington up but has reportedly admitted to instigating the fight and accepts any fines he receives.
“DBs are going to stick up for DBs and receivers stick up for receivers,” stated Griffin adding “one thing leads to another.”
Preston laughed off the fight after Griffin agreed to pay any fines saying “I got no problem with that,” while stating “It’s part of football. It’s going to happen sometimes when you’re out there competing against each other.. Neither one of us wanted to back down,” adding “you move on.. and you just have to get better.”
As far as coach Mike Munchak’s take on it, “It was mainly a lot of little guys trying to look tough” add “they.. have to be smarter.”
