This is a definitely video that should have received more press in the media. One group of high school teens attempted to break the stereotype projected by media of young black teenagers being thugs fueled by saggy pants and other fashion trends.
A group of male high school students at Illinois Central High School put together a video entitled “Suit & Tie In The 217,” which was created to counter the negative images of young African-American males in the media.
‘Suited and booted,’ the teens say “we are not gangsters and thugs,” adding that “we are employees… scholars.. athletes..”
In the video, which has a tone set by the song “Suit & Tie” by Justin Timberlake, the students can be seen going about their daily activities not dressed in saggy pants or other related trends but yet in clean, hip, fashionable attire.
