KOCH Records along with Suave Records has announced that they will be collaborating together to release legendary Memphis rappers 8Ball & MJG’s ‘Greatest Hits’.
Tony Draper who founded Suave Records in Houston, TX helped shaped the Southern rap scene in the early 90’s that brought artists such as 8Ball & MJG from their popular underground scene to the commercial side of the industry. Suave House brought out the duo’s debut album “Comin’ Out Hard”. Most recently Draper helped bring forth Ice Cube’s independent release “Laugh Now, Cry Later” which Ice Cube is stated to own his masters to which sold 600,000 SoundScan sales.
In addition to this new arrangement, KOCH will also release several other titles from other artists such as Philly’s Gillie Da Kid and Jiggolo.
Draper who states that he’s been independent since day one and sold over 700,000 before even becoming major is the one responsible for making a collective of one-stop distributors such as MS, Big State, Southwest Wholesales and others. Draper also reportedly made Select-O-Hits the spot to collect from those individual companies. Accordingly, he will be working once again with Koch President and longtime friend Alan Grunblatt. The two date back since Relativity Records in which they generated more than $25 million dollars in three short years.
“He is a brilliant record man and I’m sure we’re going to have lots of gold artists as part of this new venture,” stated Grunblatt.
