Greater Memphis Chamber interns Akira Hill and Samantha Garcia ‘chopped it up’ and talked hip-hop with rapper Skewby; asked him what does Memphis music mean to him for the Memphis Means Music Month as well as the Memphis rapper was questioned about his EP Humble Pie.
In the interview, Skewby, 24, who moved to Memphis when he was in the first grade, was asked ‘did being a Memphian affect his music.’
The rapper, who recently dropped new song “You Never Know” produced by Charlie White, said ‘yes.’
“Absolutely, I never thought I sounded country, but everywhere I go people say I sound country… well I guess I’m always comparing it to other Memphians. You know, when I grew up, to me everybody sounded crazy and then I started sounding crazy, cause you know my parents are not from here, so I started coming here and my err’s and all that were a little stronger. And that affects it and just the reality of it, Memphians are real people. In your face, they’re blunt, you know and I think it just comes across in my music. I love it.”
