Jamaica High School in New York is being sued over a case of a girl named Fatima. She had a stroke during school hours and the schools faculty waited an hour before calling 911.

In the schools handbook, it says no teacher is permitted to call 911 for any reason. Randi Weingarten with the United Federation of Teachers remarks that many schools have this in their policy so they will not get a bad reputation.

The department of education will not comment on this issue but said that Chancellor’s Regulation stipulate that school staff must call 911 in a medical emergency.
