A friend of rapper Fabolous, Shamel McKinney, 25, died from a knife stab Friday from a fight that occurred at the Manhattan nightclub Duvet (45 West 21st Street), according to reports. Sources state that investigators believe he had been with rapper Fabolous partying hours before he was stabbed in the chest and back, but friends and family state that Fabolous had spent Thanksgiving with his family and was not at the club.

According to witnesses, the 25 year-old young man collapsed on W. 21st Street, with blood rushing from his stab wound at around 3:30 a.m. where police were awaiting outside. McKinney was pronounced dead at 4:10 a.m. after being rushed to St. Vincent’s Hospital.

The victim’s brother Darryl McKinney, 23, told reporters that a fight broke out, but his brother had nothing to do with it and got caught in the middle. Some believe that the fight was between two women inside the club, which resulted in the police being called. Other reports state that the 13th Precinct responded to a 911 call about a woman being assaulted (groped) in front of the club just before closing time.

His brother Darryl McKinney stated that Shamel McKinney wasn’t with the two women, he was just standing there and his brother’s childhood friend Fabolous was not at the club.

A knife was found in a dumpster near the club at a construction site a few hours after the stabbing, but authorities are unsure if it’s the knife that was used. Currently, authorities are reviewing the video tape from surveillance cameras for a possible suspect.
