Pitbull Accuses TVT Records of Not Promoting His Album, "They Just Keep Holding Me Back"

Miami, Florida-based rapper Pitbull has accused his label TVT Records of not properly promoting his latest album.

Miami, Florida-based rapper Pitbull has accused his label TVT Records of not properly promoting his latest album, “The Boatlift,” claiming that the record label’s President Steve Gottlieb doesn’t clear him for any major recording features and is not helping to promote his career.

This week, the rapper spoke with Big Boy’s Neighborhood, a Los Angeles based morning radio show on KPWR 105.9 and told fans not to buy his album anymore.

“Download it. Burn it,” stated Pitbull in the interview. In regards to TVT not promoting his album, Pitbull had this to say, “They didn’t promote Lil Jon. They didn’t promote Ying Yang. We don’t need rappers to go at each other. We got to go at these companies. That’s what I’m doing.”

After the statements that he made in that interview went public, Pitbull later addressed fans in another interview, and stated he wants their support but he just does not want them to support what his label is doing to him.

“When I tell y’all [not to buy my record], it’s not because I don’t want you to support me,” Pitbull explained in a phone interview with Latina.com. “It’s because I don’t want you to support what this man is doing to an artist that everybody knows is humble, a hustler and a grinder.”

The man Pitbull was referring to was TVT President Steve Gottleib.

“My problem is with the president, and he knows that,” said Pitbull. “When you don’t clear me for a DJ Khaled album, when you don’t clear me for a Janet Jackson record, hardly cleared me so I had to fight tooth and nail to get on the Gloria Estefan record…I bust my a-s for [TVT].”

“I’m out here working like a slave, doing things that other artists don’t even know how to do,” Pitbull continued. “A label’s there to further and promote your career, but it feels like they just keep holding me back.”

Pitbull’s album “The Boatlift” has sold only over 70,000 copies since it’s November 2007 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Pitbull’s latest single off the album is entitled “The Anthem”.
