Orlando Shooting Ignites Kenya University Attack

People are talking about a massive attack and massacre that happened at the Garissa University in Kenya were more than 147 people were killed.

After more than a year (April 2, 2015), the story about Garissa University has resurfaced following the Orlando, Florida shooting at the Pulse Nightclub where nearly 50 people were killed over the weekend in an attack allegedly targeting gays and others in the LGBT community.

Why are people talking about Garissa University attack that happened in Kenya? Possibly due to how terrifying it was, the Islamic association and to show attacks occurring in other places around the world as well as to make others aware of other terrorist attacks that they possibly weren’t aware of such as this tragic event.

Reportedly, a Somali militant group named al-Shabaab (The Youth/The Youngsters) were the ones behind the massive killing in Kenya when they overtook the University being patrolled by two on-duty patrol officers. Mohamed Kuno, high-ranking Al-Shabaab official and former headmaster at an Islamic School in the area, was named as the person behind the attack.

The group Al-Shabaab is reportedly against the internationally recognized Somali Federal Government and the African Union Mission to Somalia and is noted as an affiliate of Al-Qaeda.

Just two-months ago, Annita Musyoka, a victim of the Garissa University attack, spoke about how she continues to hear the gunshots ringing in her ears as well as still having the memories of all her roommates who were killed by militants. Musyoka says that she managed to survive the attack by hiding in a suitcase.

Like Musyoka, many other students and non-muslism students decided to leave Garissa University for another college such as Moi University.
