OJ Simpson found guilty on 12 charges; faces life in jail

OJ Simpson aka ‘The Juice’ was found guilty and faces life in prison for 12 charges including armed robbery, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit robbery and kidnapping, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and coercion.

OJ Simpson, 61, born Orenthal James Simpson, aka “The Juice,” who first earned his fame from football as the first NFL player to rush 2,000 yards, and later earned an infamous name for his trial on charges of murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in 1994, which he was found not guilty after his defense council including the late and ingenious Johnnie Cochran and F. Lee Bailey finished their case, has now found himself in another trial but not with the fortunate results of his last.

Though O.J., with the help of the ingenious defense of the late Cochran, was found not guilty in the quote “Trial of the Century,” Simpson was found guilty of all 12 charges against him in the Las Vegas robbery case on Friday night by a jury of nine women and three men. The jury believed the prosecution’s case that the Hall of Fame NFL star was apart of a plan and plot to take, at gun point, hundreds of memorabilia items that O.J. believed had been wrongly taken from him at first by Bruce L. Fromong and Alfred Beardsley, a pair of sports memorabilia dealers.

According to the prosecutors, two of the men who were involved in the alleged Simpson plot carried guns and one testified that it was Simpson who asked him to bring the weapon. This amongst other evidence is what lead the jury to finding O.J. guilty.

Yale Galanter, O.J.’s lawyer, on the other hand, believed the trial was more about O.J. rather than about the case or evidence at hand.

“Every cooperator, every person who had a gun, every person who had an ulterior motive, every person who signed a book deal, every person who got paid money – the police, the district attorney’s office, is only interested in one thing: Mr. Simpson,” Galanter said in a statement to the jury.

Another concern of the defense was that there were no blacks among the jurors, a concern that the defense stated would likely be part of their appeal.

After the verdict of guilty, the judge revoked bail for Mr. Simpson, members of the jury refused to answer any questions and reportedly, before that, avoided to look the defendants in the eye when entering the courtroom. Clark County District Attorney David Roger, the lead prosecutor in the case, also will not comment on the case until after sentencing.

OJ is being held at the Clark County Detention Center, is scheduled for sentencing on December 5 and now faces five years to possible life in prison for the 12 charges involved in the alleged Simpson plot including armed robbery, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit robbery and kidnapping, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and coercion.

Co-defendant Clarence “C.J.” Stewart, 54, in the Las Vegas robbery case along with O.J. was also convicted as well for his participation in the alleged plot.
