Obama takes Wyoming caucuses; Next stop, Mississippi primaries

Senator Barack Obama has beaten Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton by a wide margin to capture the Wyoming Democratic caucuses.

Senator Barack Obama has beaten Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton by a wide margin to capture the Wyoming Democratic caucuses Saturday.

While Wyoming has only 18 delegates the Obama campaign has welcomed the win over Clinton, who put quite a bit of effort into Wyoming possibly hoping for an upset, to stunt any additional gain she might build onto her already victory path coming from Ohio and Texas on Tuesday.

David Plouffe, Obama’s campaign manager, said Saturday that the Wyoming victory was “evidence that Senator Obama is going to be able to put more states in play.”

“This is a big win for us,” Plouffe said. “You saw very furious campaigning by the Clinton campaign here.”

Plouffe also states that, coupled with Obama’s other wins, the results in Wyoming “speaks to Senator Obama’s strength in the West.”

This now gives Senator Barack Obama 13 caucuses to Hillary Clinton’s three.

The highly publicized race will now move on to Mississippi, where the primary will be held Tuesday.
