Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams was reinstated to the NFL on Wednesday after an 18-month suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

Williams applied for reinstatement on Oct. 1, after playing last season in the Canadian Football League. He wrote a letter of appeal to Commissioner Robert Goodell and submitted medical data to the NFL from the treatment center where he spent four months.

The Miami Dolphins have two weeks to decide whether or not to add Williams back to their roster. In the meantime, Williams can attend practice, but will not be permitted to play until Nov. 26 when the Dolphins play the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
