The Detroit City Council voted unanimously on Wednesday to change the name of a portion of West Grand Boulevard to Berry Gordy Jr. Boulevard. The newly named stretch of road will begin westward from the John C. Lodge freeway to Grand River Avenue.

Hitsville USA, the historic former home of Motown Recording Studio, is located on the recently renamed boulevard.

Gordy established Motown Records in 1959 and launched the careers of legendary artists such as The Temptaions, Marvin Gaye, The Jackson 5, and Martha and the Vandellas.
