A woman in Cordova in the Memphis metro area was arrested after allegedly shooting her boyfriend for reportedly whipping their young child with a belt at the Country Squire Apartments.

According to police, April Taylor shot her live-in boyfriend after he reportedly disciplined the child by whipping them with a belt.

Police say Taylor only meant to hit the boyfriend in the head with the gun to try to stop him from whipping the child, but the gun ended up firing shooting the boyfriend, according to WREG.

Taylor was charged with aggravated assault and booked on a $30,000 bond.

The incident has sparked debate on child discipline.
