Memphis Peace Parade Launches 2009 Peace Week and Block Party

Saturday (May 16, 2009) marked the day that the Raleigh-Frayser Peace Week launched with the Inaugural Memphis Peace Parade which consists of area high school bands, churches, and other community organizations who subscribe to the idea of achieving peace through improved quality of life.


The event, which is produced by ABetterMemphis.com, along with the support of Memphis Metro area businesses and community partners, is a run-off to this year’s 3rd annual Raleigh-Frayser Block Party for Peace 2009 which will be held May 22nd thru May 24th 10 a.m. till 9 p.m., located at Kmart (3201 Austin Peay Hwy). The Block Party for Peace will be a three day long job fair, college fair and health fair surrounded by concerts, car shows and other family friendly activities, according to producers of the event.

Acts and performances at this year’s block party range from Bill Ellis to R&B artist Cherrelle performing her songs “Saturday Love” and “Everything I Miss at Home”; International recording artist Kayte Burgess who honed her skills in Toronto, Canada; national gospel recording artist LeJeune Thompson and local musician Hughes performing his new single “If No More.”

Other event activities will include live Memphis Wrestling with a possible appearance from Jerry “The King” Lawler, the “Rock Da Stage” talent competition and the Dream Whips Custom Car & Bike Show.
