Memphis Owner of Easy Way Grocery Stores Found Dead, Shot and Killed

David Carter, of the Carter family, owners of the family-owned business Easy-Way Food Stores, was found dead on Monday morning (Jan. 20).

David Carter was the grandson of the founder of Easy-Way Produce Stores, known for carrying a range of fresh produce.

Easy was founded by the Carter family on December 2nd, 1932 at a location at 80 N Main opened by Pate Cater Sr.

After Pate Cater Sr retired, Barry Carter Sr took over operations and left ownership of the business to Barry Carter Jr and brother David Carter.

David Carter was found inside the Easy Way Distribution Center on South Mendenhall in South East Memphis by employees, reports WREG.

Police say David Carter may have been ambushed and murdered shortly after arriving to the business Monday morning.

Carter’s wife, Judge Karen Sanders Carter, is a DeSoto County Justice Court Judge.

Currently, police have no suspects and anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
