Memphis Nightclub Raided By Hundreds Of Cops For Drugs and Gangs

One Memphis nightclub has gotten its doors closed after being accused of drug and gang activity on Friday. In the raid, several suspects where arrested after the club was cited by the The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office as being a nuisance and subjected to criminal activity.

The club in question was Eclipse located at 4532 Getwell Rd, owned by Juvenal Perez.

According to Perez who spoke with ABC24 News, he can’t control everything that goes on inside of his club and had no idea that people were selling drugs at his establishment.

Paul Hagerman, Director of Special Organized Crime Unit, state that the allegations come from a petition which date back a year ago and was investigated. From the investigation, there was cocaine purchased inside of the club by undercover agents on different occasions.

Meanwhile, Perez was questioned on why does he let gang members inside of his establishment. According to Perez, he does not discriminate against anyone who tries to come inside. As for the drugs slipping inside — he figures people will find a way to bring them inside.

“I guess it was one of those days people find a way to bring them inside,” stated Juvenal Perez.

Perez feels now that the guilty party will have to pay because they are defiling his name and the community knows who he is.

Cops took everything from computers, televisions and more as well as went to Juvenal Perez’ clothing store and took all his possessions there too.

The Eclipse nightclub owner feels that his family and employees were treated aggressively by authorities and one of his female employees, who’s expecting a baby, was thrown to the floor and handcuffed.

The club and his clothing store are reported to be Perez’ only source of income and remains closed until further notice.

As for opening soon, Perez, who has an upcoming event, hopes that the club will reopen before Friday, August 26, 2011 or else he will have to refund money to ticket buyers for hundreds of tickets sold.

Juvenal Perez is expected to be in court on Wednesday, August 24, 2011.
