Memphis Music Community Mourns Loss of Jazz Director, Jeff Huddleston, Dead at 52

The Memphis music community and aspiring Memphis music musicians are mourning the loss of Memphis & Shelby County Schools’ Overton High School band director, Jeff Huddleston.

Jeff Huddleston, known also as the former band director at Fairley High School, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the age of 52.

Students, parents and the music community was shocked at the sudden death of Huddleston.

Jeff Huddleston was the program director of the Jazz studies at Overton High for a decade and a half – 14 years, to be exact.

Huddleston held the band director position at Fairley High before his position at Overton for nearly the same amount of time – 13 years.

Throughout the years, Huddleston has released and also appeared on a number of projects ranging from “Cool Drink,” “Big Band Reflections of Cole Porter,” and others.

Jeff Huddleston is also known for the Blue Bossa, a jazz combo that he founded that has backed for the likes of Joyce Cobb, Herman Green, Melinda Rogers and Kelly Hurt.
