Memphis MATA Bus and Tractor Trailer Collide Injuring Dozens?!

Early this Friday morning (Apr. 23) a MATA (Memphis Area Transit Authority) bus and a tractor trailer were involved in a crash.

Six ambulances were called to the scene of the accident to provide medical attention to the victims involved in the accident.

It’s not known exactly how many people were hurt, but around two dozen, including multiple victims involved in the crash were put into neck braces or received medical care, and others were taken to local hospitals.

The MATA bus received extensive damage by colliding into a pole after crashing with the tractor trailer. One witness to the crash describe it as “pure chaos” when the passengers on the bus tried to exit it after the crash.

According to Commercial Appeal, the MATA bus driver has been in six other incidents since starting driving for MATA in 2003, but none as severe as Friday’s incident.

While police has already cited the MATA bus driver with a traffic citation for the accident, MATA, reportedly, is conducting its own investigation into the crash as well.
