Memphis, TN has been named in a list of the “Top 10 Places To Live and Work as a Moviemaker” by Moviemaker Magazine who has placed Memphis on its Top 10 Big Cities to make a movie.
The list is based on demographics and research which include film production (shooting days, dollars generated, etc.), film community and culture (festivals, film organizations, independent theaters…), tax incentives, cost of living, access to equipment and facilities and much more.
Memphis made No. 9 on the list thanks a lot due to the Indie Memphis Film Festival, Memphis & Shelby County Film and Television Commission in partnership with SCORE and part to the cash refund available to film makers from the Tennessee Film, Entertainment, and Music Commission.
Many directors have enjoyed the amenities and low costs of filming in Memphis which include Memphis movie/film director Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, Blacksnake Moan). Others who have enjoyed Memphis’ film community are the likes of Sydney Pollack (The Firm), James Mangold (Walk the Line), and Alejandro González Iñárritu (21 Grams), among others.
