Memphis Former NFL Player, Steelers Super Bowl Champ Indicted In Teacher Exam Scam

Former NFL player, Cedrick Wilson and Super Bowl winner, who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers (took ring in Super Bowl XL win), San Francisco 49ers and college football for the University of Tennessee, has been indicted. The NFL wide receiver has been accused of having someone take two PRAXIS Physical Education examinations for him in-order to gain a teacher’s license.

The U.S. attorney’s office for West Tennessee state that the test-taker that took the test for Wilson was one of dozens of people involved in a ring that was being headed by Memphian Clarence Mumford Sr., 58.

Mumford had been paid from $1,500 to $3,000 since 1995 for test takers to gain certification in a specific subject using false identification.

Clarence Mumford, a former assistant principal at Humes Middle School, was indicted on 45-counts for running a ring which took teacher certification exams for prospective teachers and current teachers in Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi in July.

More than 70 teachers are believed to have been involved in the scheme.

Cedrick Wilson, 33, has been a substitute teacher since 2009 and was a volunteer coach at Whitestation High School where his son Cedrick Wilson Jr is a leading quarterback.

Wilson has been charged with wire fraud and social security fraud.
